Oksana Lyniv, a Ukrainian conductor from the Lviv region, has become the musical director of Tchaikovsky’s opera “Eugene Onegin” in the original language. The musical work will be staged in Dresden, Germany, in 2025.
The opera will be performed in Russian with German and English subtitles. Tickets will go on sale in April this year. The concert will take place at the Saxon State Opera Dresden four tim
Conductor Lyniv will be accompanied by several Ukrainian opera soloists: Daniil Matvienko and Nicole Chirka, who has become a permanent member of the opera since 2024.
Oksana reacted to the news about herself in print. She wrote on Facebook, “Since the beginning of the martial law period, the music of Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky, etc. has ceased to be performed in Ukraine. And yet the works of these composers belong to the obligatory repertoire of every conductor whose career is developing internationally, as these works belong to the world’s musical heritage.”
At the same time, Lyniv noted that thanks to cooperation with leading theaters, Ukrainian conductors have an opportunity to add “little-known Ukrainian composers to the repertoire and add these names to the world classical music tradition.”
