Ukrainian singer Yana Solomko has unexpectedly justified herself for continuing to live and work in the aggressor country of Russia during the full-scale invasion.

On her Instagram page, the artist wrote an extensive message in Ukrainian, in which she explained why she sang in front of the occupants and glorified the enemy military.

Solomko said that she moved to Russia even before the full-scale invasion began – in 2018, and this decision was professional. The artist complained that it was hard for her as a Ukrainian in Russia, and therefore, after working off her contract, she moved to the United States:

“I had contractual obligations, and during the war, being in Russia as a Ukrainian was difficult. Eventually, I was able to finish my contract and leave Russia for the United States. Russia was not my homeland. I am Ukrainian and that will never change, no matter who or what anyone says or writes. Before and after the war started, I did what I had to do as a professional with a legal contract, and that is not subject to anyone’s judgment,” Solomko said.
